Caring For Your Earth Elements Jewellery

Updated: May 22

A woman sits in a grassy meadow with a set of mala beads in her hands.

Purchasing Earth Elements jewellery for yourself or a loved one is meant to be a special experience. It is a way of aligning with your intentions, restoring your energy, and offering a treasured gift of self-care.

When you purchase a necklace, mala beads, or bracelets, it's important to take good care of your pieces. When tended to with love, your jewellery will last for years to come.

Here are some tips on how to care for your Earth Elements jewellery:

Three crystal necklaces are laying on a white background.

Sterling Silver Crystal Necklaces:

The necklaces are set in sterling silver, and the chains are Italian sterling silver as well. It's natural for all silver jewellery to tarnish over time.

Always keep your necklace in the small ziploc bag that it came in when its not in use. This will help keep it nice and sparkly. Placing the clasp in between the zipper will help to keep the chain tangle-free as well.

If your necklace needs some polishing up, you may use a sterling silver polishing cloth on the chain and the silver portions of the pendant.

Please do not use a silver polishing cloth on the crystal itself. You can use a soft cloth to gently polish the crystal.

Please do not wear your necklace on recently applied lotions, oils, essential oils, or perfumes. Allow those products to be fully absorbed into your skin first. This will keep your necklace in excellent condition.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your necklace during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed. Do your best to not get your necklace wet. If a little water comes into contact with it, it's okay, just let it dry out as soon as possible.

Mala Beads:

Like the sterling silver necklaces, your mala is delicate and it's important to be gentle with it.

If you are using your mala for mantra meditation, try not to pull on the beads as you recite your mantras, but simply touch each bead gently as you make your way around your mala.

Please do not wear your mala on recently applied lotions, oils, essential oils, or perfumes. Allow those products to be fully absorbed into your skin first. This will keep your mala in excellent condition for years to come.

It's normal for the rudraksha seeds to absorb the natural oils on your body, and as they do this, they will darken over time. There is a belief that their energy becomes more powerful as they darken and mingle with yours.

Do your best to not get your mala wet. If a little water comes into contact with it, it's okay, just let it dry out as soon as possible.

Please do not lay your mala on a salt lamp or any type of lamp or heat source, as it will weaken the string and cause it to break.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your mala during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed.

Bracelets:

Like the necklaces and 108 bead malas, your bracelets are delicate and it's important to be gentle with them. Place your bracelets on your wrists with caring hands; do your best to not pull or stretch them.

Please do not wear your bracelets in the shower or while swimming. Try to keep your bracelets up a bit higher on your wrists while handwashing, or remove them altogether. If your bracelets get a little wet from handwashing, that's okay. Just let them dry out as soon as possible.

Please do not wear your bracelets on recently applied lotions, oils, essential oils, or perfumes. Allow those products to be fully absorbed into your skin first. This will keep your bracelets in excellent condition.

If you have purchased bracelets with rudraksha seeds, it's normal for the rudraksha seeds to absorb the natural oils on your body, and as they do this, they will darken over time. Their energy will become more powerful as they darken and mingle with your own.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your bracelets during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed.

Clearing the energy of your jewellery:

Now that you know how to physically care for your jewellery, let's talk about how to energetically care for them.

If you are using your jewellery for deep healing, or if you are wearing them every day, it's a good idea to cleanse them daily. If you are using your pieces occassionally, cleansing them once a week, or once a month is sufficient.

You can use sound healing (tingshas, or a singing bowl work well for this), sage, palo santo, or sweetgrass to clear your jewellery.

If you are using a singing bowl, place your jewellery next to your singing bowl. Ring your bowl so that there is a good reverberation. Feel the vibration of the singing bowl moving into your jewellery. Once the sound has subsided, your jewellery has been cleansed.

If you are using tingshas, ring them over your jewellery three times. Again, feel the vibration of the tingshas moving into your jewellery, and the cleansing taking place.

When using sage, palo santo, or sweetgrass, simply light your herb of choice, so that you have a good trail of smoke going. Move your jewellery through the smoke a few times and feel the energy of it becoming lighter and more clear. A minute or two of this mindful practice will cleanse your jewellery.

If you would like to energize your jewellery, you can place it in the light of a Full or New Moon. The Full Moon energy is considered to be more healing, and the New Moon, more cleansing. Depending on your intentions, you may like to choose one or the other, or both.

When using moonlight to energize your jewellery, always keep your pieces inside your home, on a windowsill, so they aren't exposed to weather conditions outside.

Caring for your jewellery is meant to be a sacred practice, and one that can help you connect more deeply with your intentions and with yourself. I hope these tips help you develop a wonderful relationship with your jewellery.
